Current
Events Search
netTrekker d.i. provides easy access to major newspaper, magazine, journal,
and other news media source from around the world. The Current Events area
can be found below the major subject areas located on the Elementary, Middle or High School
home page (see Top Navigation).
Example of a Subject Area:
Organized like netTrekker d.i.'s Subject Search,
the Current Events area is organized by school subject and topic, as
well as location. If you are looking for a local newspaper from Ecuador,
or need the latest in alternative health news, netTrekker d.i. puts it at your fingertips.
Here's how to search for Current Events:
-
Select U.S. or World News
Click "U.S. News" or "World News" from the Current
Events area at the bottom of the netTrekker d.i. Subject Search,
or home, page. netTrekker d.i. will display a new page that contains a more
detailed list of topics, organized by geographic area and by subject area.
-
Continue to Drill Down
Read through the list, and then drill
down by clicking the topic that most closely relates to your area of
interest.
 |
 |
To the right of each topic a number
appears. These numbers indicate how many news sources can be
found at that topic (including all subtopics). |
|
 |
Continue to click topics and subtopics, drilling down until you find the
specific subject type of news you are looking for.
A "bread crumb" trail of the topics you select, called a taxonomy
string, is displayed at the top of the page. To return to a broader
topic area, click the corresponding link within the taxonomy string.
-
Getting a Search Result
As you are drilling down, many times a purple bar, titled "Sites,"
appears below your topic area. Here you will find a list of news sources
directly related to your news topic.
If you continue to drill down,
eventually you will not be able to go any farther, and the Search
Results page is then displayed. This page lists news sources on
the selected topic. Each website listed has been rated and briefly described.
For more information on the rating symbols or icons used in each Search
Result, double click on one of the icons to see the netTrekker d.i.
Legend. See Advanced Search
and/or Refinement Tabs to learn
more about detailing your search based on content type (multimedia), source, grade level, language, and controversial topics.
- Viewing a Website
Click one of the links from the "Sites" bar or the Search Results
page to go to that website. Note that the site opens in a different window
so that you can keep the netTrekker d.i. Search Results page available.
If your Current Events search resulted in more than one page of
search results, use the page number links or "next >" and "< previous"
and "< previous" links at the bottom of the Search
Results page to move from page to page.
