Keyword Search

A keyword search quickly filters through netTrekker d.i.'s database to produce a search result based upon what you typed. Searching by keyword is faster than searching by subject -- if you know which words to use and how to spell them.

Here's how to perform a Keyword Search:

    Type in a Keyword
Type a word or words describing your topic into the Keyword Search box, located at the top of any search page, and click Search.

Example of the Keyword Search Box:

    Note

If you aren't sure how to spell a keyword, try looking it up first in netTrekker d.i.'s online dictionary, located in Reference Tools.

Be sure to use the most specific words you can think of. netTrekker d.i. searches for website titles and descriptions that match the word(s) you typed.

If you misspell a keyword, netTrekker d.i. will still try to find words that sound like the word you entered and will display these words in the Did You Mean … box at the bottom of the page. However, you will get the best results if you spell your search terms correctly.

    Getting a Search Result
netTrekker d.i. will immediately display a Search Results page. This page lists the links to websites which most closely match your keyword(s). Each website listed has been rated and briefly described by an educator.

For more information on the rating symbols or icons used in each Search Result, double click on one of the icons to see the netTrekker d.i. Legend. See Advanced Search and/or Refinement Tabs to learn more about detailing your search based on content type (multimedia), source, grade level, language, and controversial topics.

    Viewing a Website
    Note

A "Did You Mean..." Box may appear at the bottom of your Search Results page for a single word keyword search. This box displays similar keyword searches to the one you just performed. Use this box to double-check your spelling.

Click one of the links on the Search Results page to go to that website. Note that the site opens in a different window so that you can keep the netTrekker d.i. Search Results page available.

If your Keyword Search resulted in more than one page of Search Results, use the page number links or "next >" and "< previous" links at the bottom of the Search Results page to move from page to page.

To perform a new keyword search use the Keyword Search box located at the top of any search page, and click Search.
